He is, however, still going strong for now – in what is his eighth season with the Reds. Salah’s penalty in a 2-1 victory over Chelsea took him to ninth on the all-time Premier League list of scorers with 162 efforts to his name. Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler is one ahead of him, while Arsenal great Henry has 175 goals and Chelsea icon Lampard has 177.
WHAT CARRAGHER SAID
Carragher believes the opportunity to overtake icons of the game will act as motivation for Salah when holding contract talks. The former Liverpool defender told : “He will have an eye on Thierry Henry and Frank Lampard by the end of this season. I think stats like this are one of the biggest reasons why Mo Salah will sign a new contract at Liverpool.
“Of course they will be talking about money and length of contract but I think these are the things that really get the juices flowing for Salah. He breaks all the records at Liverpool but getting as far as he can up those lists are a big part of his focus as a player. I’m not saying he’s selfish, he’s obviously a great team player.”

Ex-Reds striker Daniel Sturridge agrees, adding: “I think anyone who’s an attacker who wants to be known as one of the best or the best, you have to be obsessed with things like that because your job is to score and help the team win. For him it’s now to the point of legacy and ‘how can I add to my legacy?’ He’s going to go down as arguably the best, top three for sure in terms of Liverpool’s history. For me looking at Thierry and those types of guys I do believe he has an eye on that.”
